📖 Bible Verse
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.” — Ephesians 4:29

🕊️ Story / Reflection

God gave us mouths for many wonderful things:

  • To pray
  • To worship
  • To encourage
  • To speak truth
  • To help others feel loved

Our words are powerful. They can build people up like strong blocks making a beautiful house, or they can tear people down like knocking blocks over.

Sometimes people use hurtful words:

  • Teasing
  • Insults
  • Gossip
  • Shouting
  • Mean comments

Those words can hurt hearts deeply. But God wants our mouths to bring healing, kindness, peace, and encouragement.

Jesus always used His words to help people, teach truth, comfort the hurting, and bring hope. Before we speak, we can ask ourselves:

  • “Will these words help or hurt?”
  • “Will these words build or break?”

When we choose loving and wise words, we reflect the heart of Jesus.

💡 Lesson

My words should build others up, not tear them down.

🙏 Prayer

Dear God,

Help me use my mouth for kindness and encouragement.

Teach me to speak words that help, heal, and build others up.

Guard my tongue from hurtful words.

Let my speech reflect the love of Jesus.

Amen.

🎨 Activity (Ages 3–6)“Build Up Words” Block Game

  • Use toy blocks or paper blocks.
  • For every kind word spoken, add a block to build a tower.
  • Talk about how kind words help people grow strong and happy.

Examples:

  • “You are special.”
  • “Thank you.”
  • “Can I help you?”

Say together: “My words can build others up!”

✏️ Reflection (Ages 7–9)

Discuss:

  1. What kinds of words build people up?
  2. What kinds of words can hurt others?
  3. Why does God care about the words we speak?
  4. How can your words make someone feel better today?

🕯️ Challenge (Ages 10–12)Building Words Challenge

This week:

  • Encourage at least one person every day
  • Refuse to join gossip or teasing
  • Think carefully before speaking when angry

Before speaking, ask yourself: “Will my words build or break?”

🌿 Sit with Jesus Moment

Sit quietly and place your hand gently over your mouth.

Take a slow breath. Now softly say: “Jesus, help my words bring life and kindness.”

Pause quietly for a moment.

Think about one person you can encourage today with your words.

Rest peacefully and remember that your words can be a blessing to others.
